The solution
Rather than tearing everything down at once, the Mariners took a strategic, phased approach. Phase one focused on critical infrastructure — replacing the aging video router and laying the groundwork for the control room’s IP-based backbone. Phase two brought the full vision to life: a completely reimagined control room built on the SMPTE ST 2110 standard, ready for HDR, and packed with cutting-edge gear designed to meet the creative ambitions of their production team.
Driving the Seattle Mariners’ newly updated production control room is a state-of-the-art SMPTE ST 2110-based solution built on Imagine Communications’ Selenio Network Processor (SNP) and Magellan Control System. The widely deployed combination handles a mix of UHD, HD, andHDRcontent, ensuring that all audio and video feeds — whether from cameras capturing live game action or filming the crowd — are delivered in pristine quality to the right locations. Additionally, NMOS-based orchestration ensures efficient control and management of video network-connected devices, guaranteeing that each piece of equipment operates in harmony.
Imagine’s SNP is the industry’s first fully network-attached media processing platform, offering a unique architecture that is easily reconfigured with different functionality by simply enabling the appropriate features. At T-Mobile Park, the SNPs serve as HDR up/down/cross converters and SDI/IP gateways, as well as highly scalable, low-latency production multiviewers, which enable content from different video formats and HDR systems to be integrated into a consistent display environment.
The Magellan Control System delivers SDI/IP routing control, orchestration, and real-time monitoring and analytics through user-friendly, highly customizable interfaces and panels. Equally compatible with SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, VSF TR-08 JPEG XS, and MPEG-2 TS signals, Magellan Control integrates readily with other systems, enabling new production environments to be easily brought online. For the control room operators at T-Mobile Park, the system’s intuitive work surface and advanced control environment makes the IP technology underneath feel and act just like a traditional SDI router.
