Harris Broadcast, a global supplier of content management and network infrastructure serving broadcasters, satellite, MSOs, IPTV, mobileTV and over-the-top providers, today announced strong demand for its Platinum™ IP3 router only six months following the introduction of the product. Platinum IP3 has achieved considerable worldwide momentum since its launch in February of this year, with nearly two dozen orders coming from Europe and Africa alone.

Platinum IP3 is the broadcast industry’s first router to accommodate separate video, audio and data paths within the same frame, supporting baseband and IP signals for future hybrid baseband and IP infrastructures. It’s also the first signal router that can scale to multi-frame configurations for very large broadcast and media operations using a common architecture, simplifying installations and eliminating costs associated with external components and complex cabling.

Dedicated users include South Africa’s premier sports broadcaster, SuperSport, and central European direct-to-home satellite and Pay TV operator, Viasat, where IP3 is being used to enhance the capabilities of its Riga broadcast center in Latvia.

The largest order worldwide is from German broadcast systems integrator and international rental company, Munich-based sono Studiotechnik, which has bought 12 Platinum IP3 routers. These routers will be positioned at the heart of its new Fly-away mobile broadcast production facilities, which will provide broadcast support for a large global sports event in Brazil next year.

In addition to strong customer demand worldwide, the product has received numerous industry accolades. The product has been named a finalist at this year’s prestigious IABM Awards for Design & Innovation. This honor follows another award during BIRTV in Beijing, China last month where the Platinum IP3 was awarded the BIRTV Award for Innovation. In addition, the product received an award during the SET show in Brazil for best routing and signal distribution product.

“The initial demand and industry recognition are direct reflections of advances Harris Broadcast has made to deliver a router that helps our customers meet current and future requirements,” said Mathias Eckert, vice president, sales and services, Harris Broadcast. “We’re excited about the momentum IP3 has created and look forward to leveraging the product to help customers reduce operating costs and increase revenue.”
