Shalimar Recording & Broadcasting Company (SRBC) Limited, a leading independent broadcaster in Pakistan, has upgraded its technical facilities in Multan with a new Harris® Platinum™ VAX VHF transmitter to provide broadcast facilities to the ATV television network. The 2kW transmitter was sold, installed and commissioned by local Harris Broadcast dealer AA Systems, and went on the air December 21, 2012.

The ATV television network was launched in Islamabad in 1990, with 20 stations covering all major cities and commercial centres in Pakistan. The ATV channel is extremely popular thanks to its family entertainment and independent news programming.

“The ATV network is well-liked by viewers and commercially very strong so we are delighted to work with them and to announce our first Platinum VAX transmitter installation in Pakistan,” said Said Bacho, vice president of sales and services, Middle East and South Asia at Harris Broadcast. “The modular flexibility of the Platinum VAX transmitter allowed us to quickly configure it the way the customer needed, with immediate installation and commissioning so that Shalimar could benefit from its excellent signal quality and efficient operation as soon as possible.”

Bacho continues, “When the time came to update their Multan transmitter, ATV Network was seeking a highly reliable solution which would deliver the best value over its lifetime. Harris Broadcast’s reputation, excellent local service and the fact that the VAX builds on proven technologies for strong reliability, will ensure a long and trouble-free life. To top it all the power savings will give ATV the best life-cycle deal.”

The Platinum VAX incorporates the Harris® PowerSmart® solid-state architecture for industry-leading power efficiency, along with a modular design that enables quick installation and simple field upgrades. An integrated Harris® Apex M2X™ exciter provides a pathway to digital broadcast standards through its software-defined technology should Shalimar transition from analog television in the future.
