New software-based offering addresses applications including file-to-file transcoding, live multiscreen encoding and live-to-file ingest

Imagine Communications, a market share leader of software and networking solutions serving the global media broadcast and service provider markets, today unveiled SelenioFlex™, a comprehensive, software-based transcoding and encoding solution for live and file-based media processing. With the addition of SelenioFlex, Imagine Communications now offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of media processing solutions, addressing any application requirement – from source acquisition to adaptive bit rate (ABR) delivery and file-based, on-demand distribution —and supporting the expanding needs of content owners and service providers in today’s multiformat, multiscreen media landscape.

“While dynamic changes in the media world and consumer viewing habits have created a host of new opportunities, they also create operational pressures for media broadcast and service providers whose workflows have traditionally been static and hard-coded in the processing system – restricting innovation and delaying time to market for new services and delivery formats,” said Charlie Vogt, CEO of Imagine Communications. “SelenioFlex is a strategic addition to our media processing and compression portfolio, building on our Software-Defined Workflow (SDW) framework to enable faster response to market trends and providing the operational efficiency, agility and insight to capitalize on the rapid growth of multiscreen media consumption.”

SelenioFlex enables efficient, automated, high-quality media processing at any point in the content value chain from production to distribution for applications, including:

  • File-to-File Transcoding: Powered by the Xenio™ workflow manager, SelenioFlex file-to-file media processing solutions seamlessly blend customizable transcoding and workflow capabilities, supporting a comprehensive range of formats with superior quality for applications from post production and archive to multiscreen distribution. Delivering intelligent automation, exceptional scalability and unparalleled workflow agility, SelenioFlex file-based software solutions streamline operations, optimize resource utilization and lower operational costs.
  • Live/Linear Multiscreen Encoding: Also powered by Xenio, the SelenioFlex multiscreen encoding solutions provide superior live encoding for high-value multiscreen applications – from live event streaming to over-the-top (OTT) delivery of linear channels. Combining multiformat output flexibility, software-based upgradeability, and rich adaptive streaming (ABR) format support, SelenioFlex enables operators to reach audiences with superior quality, live viewing experiences across the broadest range of devices.
  • Live-to-File Ingest Encoding: SelenioFlex live-to-file ingest solutions provide efficient, multiformat capture and encoding from live sources or tapes and transcoding from file-based sources. Combining superior quality, format flexibility and the industry’s deepest feature set, the SelenioFlex ingest system is the ideal gateway to file-based production and archive workflows and today’s vast array of multiscreen distribution opportunities.

“Today’s lucrative live and on-demand, multiscreen distribution opportunities require media organizations to process and manage a rapidly expanding volume of content and an ever-increasing array of media file formats and specifications,” said Steve Reynolds, CTO of Imagine Communications. “As TV Everywhere continues to build momentum, our customers need a complete media processing offering that goes beyond format conversion and spans operational functions from file-to-file transcoding to live encoding and live-to-file ingest. SelenioFlex is ideal for meeting this demand, and will enable our worldwide customer base to optimize experiences across multiscreen environments, supporting tomorrow’s video on demand and live media processing delivery requirements.”
