Multipurpose, next-gen SDI-IP processing solution also surpasses significant distribution milestone

Imagine Communications, empowering the media and entertainment industry through transformative innovation, was recently awarded the NewBay 2017 Product Innovation Award for its Selenio™ Network Processor, the product’s second recognition for excellence in innovation since its April 2017 introduction. The multipurpose SNP is an IP-native processing solution and an SDI-to-IP gateway optimized for handling uncompressed UHD signals based on the SMPTE ST 2110 specification for transporting media over IP networks. The SNP is designed to enable production companies to optimize both studio and mobile facilities to take full advantage of the performance, agility and efficiency benefits of IT-based infrastructures, while at the same time managing the ongoing transition from traditional to next-generation architectures.

“Imagine Communications is honored to receive this latest acknowledgement of the game-changing nature of the Selenio Network Processor, which is helping to usher in a new era in live production,” said Mark Senecal, vice president of product management at Imagine Communications. “The SNP was designed to meet the evolving technology and business needs of our customers and this prestigious award further validates the interest the solution has been attracting from production companies around the world.”

Imagine Communications recently celebrated the 100th shipment of the SNP since its release in November, making it one of the fastest-selling solutions in the company’s recent history. Swiss broadcast service provider tpc (technology and production center Switzerland ag) is one of the first SNP customers. Earlier this year, tpc revealed that it is constructing a mobile production vehicle that will utilize Imagine’s new processing technology. The new truck is expected to be the first in the industry to support uncompressed HD and UHD signals over IP based on the SMPTE ST 2110 standard.

The SNP is managed by Zenium™, Imagine’s microservices platform that also powers the company’s Versio™ and EPIC™ product lines. Both an SDI-to-IP gateway and an all-IP signal processing platform, the SNP provides the gamut of capabilities required in today’s evolving production operations, with expansion capabilities to support HD/UHD up and down conversion and color space adjustment, as well as managing High Dynamic Range (HDR) conversion. Imagine Communications’ SNP also provides important synchronization and timing functions, overseeing the integration of new signals into the production environment and helping to assure the optimal timing of SMPTE ST 2110 signals for interoperability with all other compliant equipment.
