Demonstration with local distributor Concilium Technologies focuses on hybrid architectures

Imagine Communications, a global leader in video and advertising solutions serving the media and entertainment, multi-channel video programming distributors and enterprise markets, today announced it will have a strong presence at Mediatech Africa 2015 (15-17 July, The Dome @ Northgate, Johannesburg) alongside its local value-added reseller, Concilium Technologies. The companies will demonstrate how broadcasters, production companies and media facilities can set their own pace for the transition from traditional broadcast systems to the world of IP.

With the industry worldwide looking towards IP-enabled and software-defined media environments, the challenge is how to make the transition. Most organisations have substantial investments in legacy equipment and considerable experience in today’s workflows. Recognising this, Imagine Communications has the products and solutions to help customers define their own transition timelines, using hybrid systems along the way.

In addition to demonstrating transition strategies on the show floor, Steve Dupaix, senior director of strategic partner marketing, Imagine Communications, is also speaking on the subject. He will present “A cost-effective approach to the IP transition in broadcast” at 11:30 on the first day of Mediatech, Wednesday 15 July.

Central to the demonstration at Mediatech is the Magellan™ SDN Orchestrator. Magellan provides a control layer above the physical hardware, so the operator need never be aware whether the process is handled in baseband or IP. As well as helping to make the transition of hardware seamless, Magellan also helps broadcasters develop new workflows separate from the physical equipment, a big advantage in managing the transition to an all-IP infrastructure.

The presentation on the Concilium stand will also feature the Selenio™ media convergence platform from Imagine Communications. Supporting both IP and baseband video and audio, the modular Selenio platform provides the on-ramps and off-ramps into the IP world. Also on display will be the Versio™ playout solution. Versio is a software-defined channel management system which can operate as a standalone channel in a box, virtualised in a broadcaster’s own data centre, or ultimately as a cloud service.

Imagine Communications will also highlight its next-generation integrated solutions for channel planning and advertising sales, including the Broadcast Master™ broadcast management suite and Landmark™ advertising management suite. Additionally, Imagine Communications will have staff on hand to talk about advanced advertising functionality designed to help broadcasters identify integrated solutions to maximise commercial revenues across all platforms.

“With IP and software-defined networks being such hot topics, some broadcast and production companies may be worried that technology is going to spin out of control,” said Paula Bargery, sales director for UK, Ireland and South Africa, Imagine Communications. “Along with our value-added reseller, Concilium Technologies, our major theme at Mediatech is that any change has to be a managed transition, not as a big bang. We are here, with expertise and with carefully designed products and software tools, to help our customers define their transition and to ease them through the process at the speed they are comfortable with.”

Imagine Communications can be found at Mediatech Africa 2015 on the Concilium Technologies stand, E9.
