Integrated broadcast solution spans new TV facility’s workflow and infrastructure

Harris Broadcast has supplied a range of integrated broadcast solutions to systems integrator and service provider, Essel Shyam, for setting up a new general entertainment and news channel for Asia Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in Sri Lanka, the country’s largest media network. The TV channel facility, integrated by Essel Shyam, recently went live from its base in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Providing the content workflow management at the ABC facility is a Harris® ADC™ automated content management and distribution system. ADC incorporates the benefits of asset management with the efficiencies of automated operations, making it an ideal platform for content control and delivery. The facility also incorporates a range of interoperable solutions from Harris, including NEXIO AMP® servers, the IconStation™ advanced channel branding system and HView™ Predator-II GX™ multiviewers for signal monitoring.

“We were looking for a proven solution from a reputable manufacturer, and Essel Shyam was able to deliver a complete workflow solution from Harris that is not only cost-effective but also robust and reliable,” said Nilupa Ranaweera, head of television engineering, Asia Broadcasting Corporation, Sri Lanka. “Harris was also able to provide a strong technical support team — a key driver in our choice of vendor.”

Essel Shyam’s decision to propose a Harris solution was influenced by their experience with the technology at its own playout center in Noida, India. They also knew that, as a remote site, ABC required a robust solution and worldwide product support.

“We recommended an integrated broadcast solution from Harris because we have personal experience using their technology and were confident in their abilities to provide a flexible and efficient solution,” said Sanjay Duda, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Essel Shyam. “We also knew Harris could provide the local technical support required by ABC moving forward.”

Essel Shyam has also taken delivery of the Harris® NEXIO Farad™, a high-performance online storage system suited to ABC Sri Lanka’s large-scale playout application. The workflow also integrates Apple® Final Cut Pro® editors onto the NEXIO® shared storage system. This allows ABC operators to edit during ingest and playout while publishing, and eliminates FTP file transfers.

“We’re delighted to be working with ABC on this exciting new venture,” said Said Bacho, vice president, sales and service, Middle East and South Asia, Harris Broadcast. “With Essel Shyam’s knowledge and support, the ABC Sri Lanka project has demonstrated our strategy of providing customers with complete and integrated workflow solutions that help achieve their business goals.”
