Broadcaster expands ISDB-Tb DTV transition, improves over-the-air radio quality and grows mobile unit fleet with Harris Broadcast transmission and infrastructure technology
Sistema Clube, which operates an extensive radio and TV network in the Ribeirão Preto region of Sao Paolo, Brazil, is expanding and strengthening its over-the-air footprint with Harris Broadcast technology. The broadcaster has purchased four new Harris Broadcast Maxiva™ UAX UHF transmitters to support phase two of its ISDB-Tb digital transition, and is installing new Harris Broadcast FM and AM transmitters to improve its on-air radio broadcast signal quality.
Sistema Clube initially purchased a Harris Broadcast ISDB-Tb headend solution for a single-frequency transmission network in Ribeirão Preto, comprising two Maxiva UAX transmitters (1kW and 2kW) and Harris Broadcast signal networking and compression equipment. The second phase extends ISDB-Tb DTV coverage to the cities of Franca, Barretos, Sta Rita and Araraquara, with implementation through the spring of 2013.
“With the Ribeirão Preto systems implemented and in operation, network expansion is achieved simply by including new transmitters,” said Felipe Luna, director, Brazil, Harris Broadcast. “Furthermore, the Harris Broadcast ISDB-Tb headend solution now includes an IP interface for better efficiency across the network, enabling the transmitters to operate in different single-frequency or multi-frequency networks using the same transport stream.”
Sistema Clube has also acquired two Flexiva™ FM 10kW transmitters and one DAX5 5kW AM transmitter for stations in Ribeirão Preto and São Carlos. All Flexiva and Maxiva transmitters are based on the Harris Broadcast PowerSmart® architecture to maximize power, space and energy efficiency at transmission sites.
Sistema Clube is also expanding its popular mobile unit rental service for live events and remote broadcasts, with Harris Broadcast supporting all infrastructure, distribution and processing capabilities. Harris Broadcast has long provided the core of Sistema Clube’s mobile units, citing excellent quality and customer feedback. The new mobile units include Harris Broadcast Platinum™ routers, HView™ multiviewers, 6800+™ modular core processing solutions, X50™ frame synchronizers and converters, and the Selenio™ media convergence platform for audio processing.
