Imagine Communications Puts NET. on Air in Indonesia

The newest television channel in Indonesia, NET., went on air on May 26, 2013, from a new automated broadcast center built on an all-encompassing, end-to-end HD solution from Imagine Communications. The new channel broadcasts extensive live HD news coverage as well as general entertainment programming from its greenfield facility in Jakarta.

Imagine Communications provided the automated playout infrastructure, digital asset management and a collaborative news post-production facility. The complete installation was designed, commissioned and handed over in less than two months.

Imagine Communications servers provide the content storage, with a Imagine Communications online storage platform supporting the news post system and Global Proxy transcoders for the browse resolution network. TheImagine Communications digital asset management (DAM) system — the first DAM installation in Indonesia — also interfaces to Isilon nearline storage, SGL archiving and Digital Rapids transcoders.

At NET. the files are edited using a Imagine Communications proxy editor and then conformed back to high-resolution, or can be sent directly to the Imagine Communications editing systems for high-resolution finishing. Playout for live news broadcasts uses a Imagine Communications playlist manager with MOS interface to all other sub-systems in the news studio. Channel playout relies on h MOS int automation along with a Imagine Communications router, master control switcher and master control playout, and news studio live graphics insertion.

“Good asset management with simple content transfer workflows is very important in the way we want to run NET.,” said Olwin Pangaribuan, head of technical division at NET. “We want to be able to do as much as possible on the desktop, so good browse facilities and clip editing is also vital. Imagine Communications could deliver a well-integrated system and their local distributor IPA Intermedia offers excellent support, so we have great confidence in this system.”

NET. is producing at least 16 hours of news and entertainment programming in-house each day. The quick throughput enables shorted production times, optimizing journalists’ productivity throughout the facility while reducing the number of high-resolution editing suites needed. Additionally, NET. had a specific requirement to engage its audience through new media, which Imagine Communications was able to deliver seamlessly and quickly.

“We are delighted to have completed this impressive installation, against a tight timescale, in the very important Indonesian market,” said Richard Scott, senior vice president, global sales and services at Imagine Communications. “NET. came to us with a clear idea of the workflows they wanted to implement, and we demonstrated that we could meet them with proven solutions and our own end-to-end integration. The seamless integration meant we could dramatically reduce the time to deployment without risk.”

The deal with NET. was brokered by PT. Indika Siar Sarana, a local dealer in Indonesia, and it was designed and installed by NET.’s Engineer team together with IPA Intermedia Pte. Ltd.
