ELTA TV Modernizes Playout with Imagine Communications for Coverage of Record-Breaking Global Football Tournament

Integrated Workflow Delivers Reliable, Fast-Turnaround Sports Operations for Demanding Live Coverage and 24/7 Programming

TAIPEI, TaiwanELTA Technology Co., Ltd., a leading Taiwanese sports and entertainment broadcaster, has modernized its playout facility with an integrated solution centered on Imagine Communications’ industry-proven ADC™ automation and Nexio+™ AMP video servers. Deployed ahead of this year’s global football tournament, the new system enabled reliable, fast-turnaround coverage while helping ELTA reduce operational risk during one of the year’s highest-profile live sports events.

Founded in 2000 and based in Taipei, ELTA delivers multiscreen digital services through Chunghwa Telecom MOD and its own OTT service, ELTA.tv. Its extensive sports offering includes coverage of the FIFA World Cup, the Olympic Games, the NBA, Major League Baseball, and Formula 1. ELTA’s programming also includes Taiwanese, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese dramas and popular variety shows.

To prepare its playout operation for the tournament and ongoing 24/7 programming, ELTA was looking to upgrade its legacy Imagine automation with a modern platform and seamless workflow environment capable of supporting daily live recording and rapid-turnaround playout. The project moved ELTA to a fully integrated automation and ingest environment built around high-performance video servers and scalable, high-availability shared storage technology.

“Our viewers expect seamless access to the biggest moments in sports, and coverage of this year’s World Cup placed exceptional demands on our operation,” said Sally Chen, Founder & Chairwoman, ELTA Technology. “Imagine gave us a stable platform that was ready before kickoff and familiar to our operators from day one. By preserving the workflows our teams already know, we were able to minimize retraining and turn around live content quickly and confidently throughout the event.”

At the center of the upgraded facility, Imagine’s widely deployed ADC automation coordinates channel playout, while high-efficiency Nexio+ AMP video servers manage content from ingest to air. Imagine IOX™ Express provides scalable, high-availability shared storage, and Motion™ asset manager software automates media movement between storage and playout. A Platinum™ VX 288 × 288 router handles signal distribution across the facility.

In ELTA’s modernized master control room, an SNP-XL with Master Control Lite (MCL) personality is configured as a dual downstream keyer (DSK) with 4K up/down conversion and frame rate conversion functionality. The SNP DSK supports a full 10-bit UHD resolution data path, including 10-bit UHD graphics and keys, as well as HDR operation for graphics. Together, these tightly integrated Imagine technologies support five ingest and five playout channels.

The new playout system at ELTA was implemented in association with local Imagine partner and systems integrator Interactive Digital Technologies (IDT).

“ELTA has relied on Imagine technology for many years, and this latest investment reflects its confidence in the stability of our systems and the responsive local support provided by our Taiwan partner, IDT,” said Mathias Eckert, SVP and GM EMEA and APAC, Imagine Communications. “Working together, we completed the upgrade ahead of the tournament, giving ELTA a smooth path to a more productive and resilient operation without adding unnecessary complexity.”

Imagine automation powers more than 10,000 channels at hundreds of sites around the world, and global usage of its proven playout solutions exceeds 26 million hours every month. The company’s playout portfolio offers a solution for every customer (broadcast, streaming, news), every operational need (ingest, integrated playout, unified origination, master control and branding, automation), and every deployment model (SDI, hybrid, ST 2110, cloud).
